How to ask for the haircut you actually want

Numbers, photos and the one word every barber secretly wants to hear. A short guide to walking out with the cut in your head.

Most bad haircuts are not bad haircuts. They are good haircuts of the wrong idea. The fix happens in the first two minutes, before a single clipper is switched on.

Bring a photo, then explain it

A picture is worth a thousand words, but only if you tell us which ten matter. Is it the length on top, the way the fringe falls, or how short the sides go? Point at the part you like.

Learn two numbers

Clipper guards run from zero to eight. A number two on the sides is short but not skin. A number four keeps some weight. Knowing your last number saves a lot of guessing.

Talk about your mornings

Tell us how long you want to spend on your hair and what you put in it. A cut that needs a blow dryer is no good to someone who owns a towel and nothing else.

Say the magic word

Trust. If you like where we are heading, let us finish the idea. The best cuts on the wall came from clients who said: you know what, do what you think.
